Arimidex Indications

There are several uses (also called "indications") for Arimidex® (anastrozole). In particular, this prescription medication is approved for postmenopausal women who have:
  • Early breast cancer that is hormone receptor-positive. Arimidex is used after breast cancer surgery with or without radiation. This is known as adjuvant therapy, or treatment that is used to help prevent the cancer from returning.
  • Advanced or metastatic breast cancer that is either hormone receptor-positive or the hormone receptor status is not known.
  • Advanced breast cancer that has not responded to tamoxifen (Nolvadex®, Soltamox®).
There are also some "off-label" (unapproved) indications for Arimidex, such as:
  • Treating breast cancer in premenopausal women
  • Treating excess estrogen in men
  • Inducing ovulation in women as part of infertility treatment.
