Benefits of Femara
If you are a postmenopausal woman with breast cancer, you may benefit from Femara® (letrozole). This prescription medication is a type of aromatase inhibitor and works by blocking certain enzymes in the body that produce estrogen. Because many types of breast cancer need estrogen to grow, Femara can help slow down the growth rate of these types of cancers.
Specifically, Femara may benefit postmenopausal women who have the following:
- Early breast cancer that is hormone receptor-positive and who have had surgery
- Advanced or metastatic breast cancer that is either hormone receptor-positive or the hormone receptor status is not known
- Have taken tamoxifen (Nolvadex®, Soltamox®) for five years after surgery or radiation therapy.
