Breast Cancer Home > Benefits of Arimidex

If you are a postmenopausal woman with breast cancer, you may benefit from Arimidex® (anastrozole). This prescription medication is a type of aromatase inhibitor and works by blocking certain enzymes in the body that produce estrogen. Because many types of breast cancers need estrogen to grow, Arimidex can help slow down the growth rate of these types of cancers.

Specifically, Arimidex may benefit postmenopausal women who have the following criteria:

  • Early breast cancer that is hormone receptor-positive
  • Advanced or metastatic breast cancer that is either hormone receptor-positive or the hormone receptor status is not known
  • Advanced breast cancer that has not responded to tamoxifen (Nolvadex®, Soltamox®).
  •
