The prognosis (chance of recovery) and treatment options depend on the following:
- The stage of the cancer (whether it is in the breast only or has spread to other places in the body)
- The size of the tumor
- The type of breast cancer
- The age of the fetus
- Whether there are symptoms
- The patient's general health.
Pregnant women with breast cancer may be less likely to survive because the diagnosis of their cancer is often delayed and the cancers are more advanced when they are found. Cancers found at later stages are often more difficult to treat successfully.
If, after reading this eMedTV article, you have additional concerns regarding breast cancer and pregnancy, be sure to mention them to your doctor.
