Problems With Tamoxifen
Like many other medications, tamoxifen citrate (Nolvadex®) can sometimes cause negative reactions. Some of the most common problems with tamoxifen include side effects, such as:
- Vaginal discharge
- Hot flashes.
If side effects do occur, they tend to be minor and are usually easy to treat. However, there are some potentially serious tamoxifen reactions that require immediate medical attention. Contact your healthcare provider if you experience problems such as:
- Difficulty breathing
- Unexplained swelling
- Chest pain.
Other tamoxifen warnings and precautions apply to women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, as well as people who have certain allergies. Also, you may not be able to take tamoxifen if you have had a blood clot or if you are taking an anticoagulant ("blood thinner") medication.
