Tamoxifen Tablets

Available by prescription only, tamoxifen citrate (Nolvadex®) is a medication used for treating or preventing breast cancer. Tamoxifen tablets are available in two strengths -- 10 mg and 20 mg. There is also a liquid form available (Soltamox™ oral solution).

Your healthcare provider will consider several factors before determining your dosage. Some of these factors include whether you are using the drug to treat or prevent breast cancer, other medical conditions you may have, and other medications you are currently taking. For example, the recommended dose for treating breast cancer is tamoxifen 20 mg to 40 mg daily.

If the medication bothers your stomach, try taking your dose with food. It is important to take your dosage at the same time every day to maintain an even level of the medication in your blood. Potential side effects include nausea, hot flashes, and vaginal discharge.
