Tamoxifen is a prescription drug that is used to treat certain forms of breast cancer, such as node-positive breast cancer, metastatic breast cancer, and ductal carcinoma in situ. The medication may also help prevent the disease in women who are at high risk for it. It is typically taken once or twice a day as a tablet. Potential side effects often reported with tamoxifen include water retention, dizziness, and abnormal menstrual periods.
