How Does Taxol Work?

Taxol® (paclitaxel) is an intravenous cancer drug that is used by itself or in combination with other medications. It is licensed for use in adults and comes in both brand-name and generic form.
Taxol works by interfering with certain structures within cancer cells. Although the medication can kill both healthy and cancerous cells, it has a greater effect on cells that multiply rapidly. Generally, cancer cells multiply more rapidly than healthy cells. Thus, they tend to be more affected by Taxol.
