Problems With Taxol

Taxol® (paclitaxel) has been studied thoroughly in clinical trials, in which a group of people taking the drug have side effects documented.

In these studies, the most common problems reported with Taxol (used alone or in combination with other chemotherapy medications) included:

  • Neutropenia (low levels of white blood cells called neutrophils)
  • Anemia
  • Hair loss
  • Muscle pain or joint pain
  • Nausea and vomiting.

Your healthcare provider may "premedicate" you with other drugs before giving you your Taxol dosage. This will help reduce the risk of problems such as fluid retention or allergic reactions.
