Taxol® (paclitaxel) is a chemotherapy medication approved for treating certain forms of breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and lung cancer. Depending on the specific type of cancer being treated, it is either used alone or in combination with other drugs. Taxol, which is available in brand-name and generic forms, is given through an IV over a one-hour period. While most people tolerate this prescription medicine well, potential side effects include hair loss, unusual sensations, anemia, and leukopenia.
