The cancer drug
Taxol® (
paclitaxel) is not suitable for everyone. For example, some of the dangers of Taxol include potentially serious side effects. Contact your healthcare provider right away if you experience problems such as:
- An irregular heart rhythm during an infusion
- Blood in the stool
- Difficulty breathing.
In clinical studies, side effects occurred in nearly all people using Taxol. Some of the most common side effects reported with it included:
- Hair loss -- in up to 96 percent of people
- Anemia -- up to 97 percent
- Muscle pain -- up to 93 percent.
Other potential Taxol dangers include possible drug interactions and allergic reactions. You may not be able to take this medication if you have a low neutrophil count (below 1500 cells/mm3).
