Taxol Drug Class

Taxol® (paclitaxel) is a chemotherapy medication used to treat many types of cancer, including breast cancer and ovarian cancer. The medicine is given through an IV, with each infusion lasting an hour.
Taxol belongs to a class of drugs called taxanes. Taxanes stop cancer cells from growing and multiplying by interfering with certain cell structures. One of the advantages of using this medication is that it has a greater effect on rapidly multiplying cells (cancer cells fall into this category).
