Risks With Taxotere

The chemotherapy drug Taxotere® (docetaxel) has been studied extensively in clinical trials, in which a group of people using the medication have side effects documented. Based on the results of these studies, some of the risks associated with Taxotere include side effects such as:
  • Fluid retention
  • Mouth sores
  • Anemia
  • Weakness.
Other side effects, such as allergic reactions and severe vomiting, are more serious and require immediate medical attention. To reduce your risk of problems, your healthcare provider will probably give you an oral steroid, such as dexamethasone (Deltasone®), for three days, starting the day before your Taxotere dosage, each time you receive it.
