Taxotere® (docetaxel) is a medication used to treat breast cancer, prostate cancer, and certain other types of cancer. Although most people are able to use it successfully, it's a good idea to understand the safety concerns with Taxotere before undergoing chemotherapy with this drug.
For example, you may develop side effects such as anemia or hair loss during treatment. In addition, this drug increases your risk of severe fluid retention and allergic reactions. In fact, you will be given a steroid before each dose to help reduce this risk. Another thing to keep in mind is that you may be more susceptible to infections while undergoing treatment with Taxotere.
To help ensure your safety, talk to your healthcare provider before starting treatment with Taxotere if you:
- Are pregnant or thinking of becoming pregnant
- Have any allergies or other medical conditions
- Are taking any other medications.
