Taxotere® (docetaxel) is approved for the treatment of cancer in adults. Specifically, it can be used for cancer affecting the breast, lung, prostate, head, or certain other parts of the body. The medicine is approved for adults only and is given through an IV over a one-hour period.
Depending on the specific type of cancer being treated, Taxotere is either used alone or in combination with other drugs. Before each dose, you will be "premedicated" with a steroid, such as dexamethasone (Deltasone®). This will help reduce the risk of complications such as fluid retention and allergic reactions.
