Who Makes Xeloda?

Xeloda® (capecitabine) is a medication licensed to treat breast cancer and colorectal cancer (cancer of the colon or rectum). If you are prescribed this medication, you may wonder who makes Xeloda.

Brand-name Xeloda is manufactured by Hoffmann-La Roche, Inc. At this time, there are no generic versions of the medication available.

Although the first patent for Xeloda has expired, Hoffmann-La Roche, Inc., probably holds the exclusive rights to manufacture this drug until June 2014, when the next patent for Xeloda expires. This is the earliest predictable date that a generic version of this drug may become available. When these exclusivity rights expire, other companies can make a generic Xeloda.
