Xeloda and Breastfeeding

Studies have shown that Xeloda does pass through breast milk in mice, but it is unclear if the medication passes through breast milk in humans. Due to the potentially serious side effects that could occur in the nursing infant, the manufacturer of Xeloda recommends that women not take the medication when breastfeeding. If you are taking Xeloda and breastfeeding at the same time, talk to your healthcare provider about what is best for your situation.

 

Xeloda and Breastfeeding: An Overview

It is not known if Xeloda® (capecitabine) passes through breast milk. Because of the potentially serious side effects that could occur in the nursing infant, the manufacturer of Xeloda recommends that women not breastfeed while taking Xeloda. Therefore, make sure to let your healthcare provider know if you are breastfeeding or thinking of breastfeeding.
